Fenwick searching for new athletic director

MIDDLETOWN — Fenwick High School is looking for a new athletic director.

Fenwick Principal Mike Miller said on Wednesday, June 9 that Jerry Kombrinck was no longer with the school.

“Jerry worked hard for us and we’re thankful for all he did,” Miller said. “But it was a mutual parting of the ways and we’re looking toward the future.

“We wanted to go in a different direction and we wish him well in his future,” he added.

Kombrinck was with Fenwick for two years. It was his first athletic director position. He could not be reached for comment.

“We have a good, strong tradition and a solid reputation in terms of athletics,” Miller said of the Falcons, who compete in the Greater Catholic League and the Girls Greater Cincinnati League. “We compete in one of the best leagues in Ohio, if not in the nation.

“We have several league championships in our four years of competing in the league,” he continued. “We’re looking for that person that can take us to the next level.”

The job has been posted on several websites, including the Ohio High School Athletic Association. The deadline to apply is Wednesday, June 16.

“We’ve already received 10 or 11 applications,” Miller said. “I think we have some outstanding candidates, but it is a process.”

That process, Miller said, includes an interviewing committee comprised of Fenwick coaches, alumni, faculty and booster club members. The committee will review all the resumes and choose the best candidates to be interviewed.

“This will be a very important member of our administration,” Miller said. “We’re talking about someone who has a big impact and works with a lot of kids, so we have to be sure to get the right person. We can’t just settle.”

Miller’s hope is to have someone in place by July 1, but he said realistically that mid-July would be more likely.
